the actor

Kodjo Ebouclé (1946-1999)

Kodjo Ebouclé was born in 1946 in Adjamé, in the border of lagoon Ebrié. He has made his primary school in Grand-Lahou(1956-1963) and secondary school in Dimbokro(1964-1967). In 1968, he entered INA( INSAAC, today) to study drama until 1972.Then he will get a one year internship at Strasbourg dramatic art school(university level). And later he will become theatre teacher( ) and theatre Director at INA and INSAAC.
The artistic career of this famous actor began earlier. While making his studies, he used to perform in many plays put on by the troop of INA such as “ le lion et la perle” by wole Soyinka, “l’œil” by Bernard Zady, “Thôgô-Gnini” and “Béatrice du Congo” by Bernard Dadié, “ la Tragédie du roi Christophe” by Aimé Césaire” and so on.
He was also interested in TV . He presented many sketches such as “ palabre sous le baobab” and that will not be the end: he will also be interested in films and sometimes was a very good actor as in the excellent short film “Amaniè”by Roger Gnoan Mbala(1972), “Abusuan”by Henri Duparc(1972)in the colourful feature film “Ablakon” (1985) by Roger Gnoan Mbala.
In the lattest film, Kodjo Ebouclé as a false crook aviator has won two prizes of best masculine interpretation : at FESPACO (1985) and at Carthage Cinematographic days (1986).
We can bear in mind that kodjo Ebouclé was an excellent actor and a great theatre Director (“une femme à louer” by François Campaux, 1986, “ Les oeillères” by Kobina Sekiyi, 1993).
He was also an excellent film actor who died early. He was both the first and the best Ivorian Stage manager and particularly the best Assistant Director. Consequently, he will take part in the creation of many films such as ( “ les guérisseurs” and “Tanoé des lagunes”) by Sidiki Bakaba, Jacques Champreux( “ L’aventure ambiguë “ ) by Henry Duparc etc.
Elsewhere, he will be responsible of the Management of a Walt Disney film shot in Côte D’ivoire. In 1990, the Ivorian Government acknowledged his qualities and he was awarded the officer medal in the field of culture. “ Clap ivoire” organizers ( first edition in 2002) gave his name to the greatest prize of this videograms competition to pay tribute to him after his death. It is important to know that kodjo Ebouclé died the 27 of September 1999.
