Interviews

SEM Laurent GBAGBO, President of the Republic of Ivory Coast
« I liked the part in several points of view. From the perspective of history, I wondered if some details were correct. I'll check in an encyclopedia. From the standpoint of the author on Politically, it retains something essential. Dadié Bernard wrote "Islands storm well before the crisis. But you see there's nothing new under the sun. Therefore which must be respected writers. Because the ancient writings become new when planning events in front of the news. I wanted to see this play which we have heard a lot. In a decolonization poorly made, they are the same reports it acts the same way. You've recognized the number of times the news. In any case, I recognized myself. At times I had tears in their eyes. Then at other times [referring to his political options and strategies], I thought I had good reflexes. At other times I told myself that I did not have good reflexes.
This is where we recognize a genius. Dadi is one of our greatest writers because we see that this is not a man who wrote to write. He used his pen to reflect the struggle he led. This struggle has led to prison. I'm not saying he is a committed writer because it is an overused term. But I say that the pen is an instrument of combat. It is engaged in a struggle, that of decolonization. And when he speaks of decolonization is always with accents of truth. I thank him and congratulate him. I also thank all the actors. [Joking] There are those I do not thank, Welcome and Sidiki, because they're survivors of a period in the 70s. It is they who, playing parts of Zadi and other authors, 30 years ago now, had created the theatrical season. That's why I asked that recreates the theatrical season. This allows young players to play for young directors to assert themselves. I was heard.
We need to end the crisis, but we must also brings people to the theater. I think it is a moral misery, mental torture to see such a piece played with such talent by young Ivorians to an audience too thin. That death for theatrical work. The Minister of Culture is here [Augustin Kouadio Comoé], we must reflect on the way to bring people to the theater. For movies, there are arguments such as video, DVD, etc.. [explaining that the room is empty]. I watched all movies at home because I can go to a movie like that [in view of its function]. But the theater is not the same. For each day the players play. They take the risk of being wrong. They stutter sometimes. They sometimes forget the words, etc.. each day they are fighting against themselves. They recreate the piece.
Let people come to see the work they do. We all need to ask the Minister of Culture and his staff to reflect on how to fill the theaters. »
